Yuri Chujo Davis has 25 years experience as an English-Japanese translator. After working as a bilingual assistant and translator/interpreter for Japanese companies in Atlanta, Georgia, she became a full-time freelance translator in 1984. Her specialties include business reports, academic articles, industrial manuals, company brochures, and government reports, in such fields as computers, telecommunications, petroleum, law, and foreign trade.
She is accredited by the American Translators Association in English to Japanese and Japanese to English translation, and served on the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Association of Interpreters and Translators from 1990 to 2000. She has an M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Georgia and a B.A. in English from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.
Motoko Ferrara has over 20 years experience as conference interpreter in Japan and the United States. After receiving formal training in simultaneous interpretation, she worked as an interpreter, an instructor, and a translator. She started her US business in Atlanta in 1989. Since then, she has been interpreting at conferences, technological transfer meetings, seminars, media interviews, business negotiations, board meetings, and depositions in the US, Canada, and Europe. Her fields of expertise include telecommunication and network technologies, manufacturing, quality control, and environment.
She has an M.A. in American Studies from Pennsylvania State University and a B.A. in English Literature from Doshisha University. She was awarded a Rotary International Scholarship in 1987 and the Doris Hugh Award from Pennsylvania State University in 1989. She is a member of the ATA and the Atlanta Association of Interpreters and Translators.
Elizabeth Baldwin is experienced in translation, editing, interpretation, and cross-cultural training. Her business-related translations include company profiles, contracts, product specifications, product introductions, and business plans. Government-related translations include mayoral speeches, planning documents, promotional materials, and reports. She is the principal translator of four books and many exhibits in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. She was coordinator and principal trainer for Mazda Motor Corporation's cross-cultural training program for families assigned overseas from 1985 to 1987. From 1993 to 1995 she co-edited Japan Related, a monthly periodical on cross-cultural communication in business.
Steven Leeper has worked as a translator, interpreter and consultant to Japanese companies operating in the United States. As part owner and principal J-E translaor of a translation company based in Hiroshima, Japan, he has accumulated 15 years of experience in fields as divergent as electronic commerce, automobiles, economics, peace studies, and poetry. He won Second Prize in the J-E categoy in the Babel Translation Contest of 1988. His consulting work with Japanese companies has focused on improving communication and teamwork among Japanese and American staff. This background formed the basis of Japan Related, a monthly periodical on communication between Japanese and Americans in business which he published from 1993 to 1995. |
